Do-It-Yourself projects can be fun. They can be rewarding. While this may be true, these projects can also be dangerous! When it comes to backup generator installation, leave it to the professionals at PowerUp! From Ellerbe Road to Airline Drive and from Natchitoches to Benton, our certified technicians are ready to install your backup power.
Below are answers to basic questions regarding Generator Installation:
What steps do I take to get started?
That is the easy part! You, simply, call PowerUp Power Systems to set up your FREE in-home consultation with one of our generator specialists.
Will one of your generator specialists come to my home to do a site assessment?
Absolutely! Above all, a site assessment is a must! A member of the PowerUp team will schedule a convenient time to visit your home in order to determine your specific needs. Options available in backup generators and transfer switches will be covered. He or she will check locations of gas lines, electrical meter and circuit breaker panel, which dictate placement of your generator. In addition, natural gas and liquid propane options will be explored.
The PowerUp team member will make knowledgeable recommendations regarding the best fit for you and your family or business. Afterwards, you will receive pricing that includes the generator, the transfer switch and installation.
What are some pricing options?
PowerUp Power Systems offers generator packages for the purchase and installation of the two major components—the generator and the automatic transfer switch.
What affects pricing?
- Manufacturer – PowerUp proudly sells Briggs & Stratton, Generac, and Gillette.
- Size of generator
- Location of generator – For its fuel supply, your generator must be connected to the natural gas meter or to a gas line. Most importantly, the distance from the generator to the gas meter or gas line must be as short as possible in order to keep costs down.
- Location of automatic transfer switch – Along those same lines, the automatic transfer switch must be connected to the existing electrical supply panel or to the electric meter. To put it another way, the shorter the distance, the more cost-effective the installation will be.
- Location of utilities – Your generator and automatic transfer switch must be interconnected with electrical lines for controls, battery chargers and service feeders. IF the utilities for your home are NOT in close proximity, this will also add to the cost of installation.
When are the installations performed?
Installations are performed Monday through Friday during the hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Extreme heat and frigid temperatures are no problem! In other words, we perform installations year round and only reschedule installations during times of heavy rainfall or snow.
Who performs the installations?
The installation team consists of three technicians: one electrician, one master generator technician and one gas pipefitter.
How long does a generator installation take?
In most instances, installations take only a day or two!
What happens before the actual generator installation?
A lot! After you sign your contract for the standby generator that best meets your needs, the PowerUp team puts the wheels in motion. There are permits to pull, materials to gather, and utilities to coordinate.
A few days prior to installation, our master electrician will review the installation plans with you, including reviewing videos/pictures and notes.
What happens During the generator installation?
To begin the process, our licensed electrician installs your transfer switch. After that is completed, your whole house or business generator is set in place, and electrical lines are connected from the switch to the generator. The pipefitter then makes connections from the natural gas or liquid propane to the generator. Thereafter, your generator is ready for action!
What happens after the generator installation is completed?
After the standby generator is installed, we clean the work area and haul away all debris. You will not even know we were there!
Once this is done, the master generator technician will go over the operation of the standby system and answer any questions and address any concerns you may have. A REAL power outage will be simulated in order to test out your new generator. Think test drive.
Once the installation and test drive are completed, your backup generator and automatic transfer switch information are entered into the PowerUp system and your generator warranty is activated.

What Our Clients Say About Us
Mr. Randy Smith is a very nice sweet helpful person. Him and his crew helped me out in more ways then just the generator. He was honest and trueful. Generator was delivered days before scheduled.
Installed 4 years now and service has been excellent! As the tropical storm hit our area in August 2020, our unit did not come on early that morning. I called PowerUp and the technician arrived within the next hour. He even had to move a limb in my drive. With the rain and wind hitting him, he efficiently replaced the battery! We highly recommend PowerUp Systems!
I had two generators installed in November at my home and business outside Doyline. Sitting here right now with electricity while my neighbors are out due to the storms this morning. What a relief! Thank you so much!
In 2008 we purchased our PowerUp Generator system. We purchased the system recommended. It’s about to be protecting us during Hurricane #3! We also recommend their annual service package. Maintenance is an important part of reliability of the system.
