Smart power. That is the simplest way to describe Automatic Transfer Switches for residential standby generators.

Is this a need? The short answer is YES! You, simply, cannot have backup power for your home without one! Your home power system will not know when to supply power to your home during a power outage or which circuits require power.

The Automatic Transfer Switch does ALL the thinking for you and serves as the brains of the operation.

Transfer Switches Are Always Ready!

Ready. Set. Go. Automatic Transfer Switches stay ready at a moment’s notice to transfer power FROM the generator TO the residence. They constantly monitor your home’s utility power and stand ready to start the generator should a disruption be detected.

In less than 20 seconds, your home can go from darkness to light. Most members of the family will not even notice the interruption, which is a huge bonus.

Automatic Transfer Switches

Safety First!

Safety is a HUGE aspect of the Automatic Transfer Switch! When the generator is producing the correct amount of electricity, the transfer switch closes the connection with utility power and opens the connection with generator power.

When the utility power is restored, the transfer switch will detect this and will close the connection to the generator power and open the connection to the utility power. The generator is then automatically powered down with ZERO assistance from you.

Electricity is prevented from traveling in two directions simultaneously or from traveling in the wrong direction, such as from the residential generator to the power line. This keeps our hardworking linemen safe while working to restore power.

Types And Options For Transfer Switches

As in most things, there are options available in these switches. Typical transfer switches come in 6 to 16-circuit configurations as dwell as whole house units. It all boils down to how many items you want to have power and how you want that power controlled. As discussed in the Whole House Generator section, the options are:

  • Essential Circuit: Protects the ESSENTIALS, such as refrigerator, water heater, etc.
  • Managed Whole House: Protects ALL the circuits, but cycles on and off as needed, depending upon what is in use.
  • Whole House: Protects ALL the circuits ALL the times. Period.

So Many Choices! Typical transfer switches come in 6 to 16-circuit configurations as well as Whole House units that supply power to your entire home.

No matter which option you chose, the transfer switch will be located within an aluminum box that will be installed close to your utility panel. If this is on the exterior of the home, do not worry. These boxes are fabricated to withstand any weather Mother Nature throws our way.

PowerUp offers the following transfer switch options:

  • Smart Management Modules ()
  • Service Rated Transfer Switches
  • 100 – 400 Amp Non-Service Rated Transfer Switches
  • 600 – 800 Amp Non-Service Rated Transfer Switches
  • Pre-Wired 12-Circuit Transfer Switches
  • CSA Approved Service Rated Transfer Switches

Location Of Transfer Switches

No matter which option you chose, the transfer switch will be located within an aluminum box that will be installed close to your utility panel. If this is on the exterior of the home, do not worry. These boxes are fabricated to withstand any weather Mother Nature throws our way.

Automatic transfer switches are additional peace of mind. You, literally, do nothing during the entire process, yet your home remains safe and secure!

What Our Clients Say About Us

Mr. Randy Smith is a very nice sweet helpful person. Him and his crew helped me out in more ways then just the generator. He was honest and trueful. Generator was delivered days before scheduled.
Ms. Green,
Installed 4 years now and service has been excellent! As the tropical storm hit our area in August 2020, our unit did not come on early that morning. I called PowerUp and the technician arrived within the next hour. He even had to move a limb in my drive. With the rain and wind hitting him, he efficiently replaced the battery! We highly recommend PowerUp Systems!
Ms. Junkin,
I had two generators installed in November at my home and business outside Doyline. Sitting here right now with electricity while my neighbors are out due to the storms this morning. What a relief! Thank you so much!
Ms. Briggs,

In 2008 we purchased our PowerUp Generator system. We purchased the system recommended. It’s about to be protecting us during Hurricane #3! We also recommend their annual service package. Maintenance is an important part of reliability of the system.

Last evening (with Hurricane Laura heading our way) our doorbell rang. Surprised to see our PowerUp maintenance guys at the door. They came to check out the system because of the impending storm. Glad they did our battery was needing replacement and a spark plug was Fouled. We would have not known until it was needed. This is what you can rely on when your a PowerUp customer! Thank you PowerUp , so glad we are a part of your company’s family.

This is an unsolicited testimony from a much satisfied customer.
